Hospital reporting has slant

It is with interest that I read the article regarding Sacred Heart’s “merger” with Spokane Cardiology and Heart Clinics Northwest (“Merger to create Heart Institute,” July 22). When Rockwood Clinic joined CHS, it was an acquisition and a purchase. Dr. Agwunobi in a letter to the medical community stated that the physicians and staff would become Providence employees as were the cardiothoracic surgeons and staff purchased by Providence two years ago.

I will be interested to see if the purchase price will be in print as it was when CHS purchased Rockwood Clinic.

Dr. Agwunobi goes on to say how this will benefit the community and that it was a response to changes anticipated under health care reform. However when CHS made the purchase, Dr. Agwunobi said it was going to be a detriment to the community and was motivated by profit.

I guess it depends on who makes a purchase as to whether it will benefit the community or not.
