Enderle on Manning list

College football: Idaho quarterback Nathan Enderle is on the Manning Award watch list.

The award has honored the top quarterback in the nation for the past six years.

Enderle is also on the watch lists for the Unitas Golden Arm and the Davey O’Brien Award.

Chiefs finalize team staff

Hockey: The Spokane Chiefs finalized their staff, announcing the re-signing of assistant coach Jon Klemm and director of player personnel Chris Moulton.

The Chiefs have also announced that goaltending coach Denis Sproxton, athletic therapist/strength coach Todd Daniels and equipment manager Kacee Coberly will return for the 2010-11 season.

Klemm returns to the staff for his second season as assistant coach, joining new head coach Don Nachbaur on the Spokane bench.

Klemm signed a two-year deal.

Moulton has signed a three-year deal. He joined the organization in June 2005.

The Chiefs will open their fall camp with ice sessions on Aug. 26. The Red-White Scrimmage will be played at the Spokane Arena on Aug. 29 at 1 p.m.

The Chiefs’ first regular-season game is Sept. 25 at the Tri-City Americans with their home opener on Oct. 2 against the Americans.

Cougars will play Portland

College basketball: Portland will be Washington State’s opponent for this season’s Cougar Hardwood Classic at Seattle’s KeyArena.

The game will be played Nov. 23.

The meeting will be the 12th between the two teams from the Northwest. WSU holds a 9-2 all-time series advantage over Portland, with the Cougars winning 62-50 in their last meeting in 2006. The series dates back to 1938.

Last season Washington State defeated LSU 72-70 in overtime in the Classic in front of 15,341 fans. The game broke the record for the largest crowd WSU men’s basketball has played in front of in the state of Washington.

Washington State has scored victories over Montana State, The Citadel, San Diego State and Utah in the other Cougar Hardwood Classic games.
