Fifth and Jefferson is not Lower South Hill… it is Downtown…. John

I agree John. The South Hill doesn’t start until 7th!

5th and jefferson is definitely south hill. It is on an incline, thus making it part of the lower south hill. There is a part of 5th I would agree is still downtown, but then there is another part of 5th (where I pay my rent every month) right by shriners hospital..
As if this isn’t the most trivial thing that I could ever defend…

Below the line that would be pioneer park (between 7th and 8th) is downtown. Although a good argument could be made about the freeway as the dividing point….

or an even better argument would be that the south hill starts where the damn hill begins..5th and up is south hill. 4th is still on flat surface, 5th is at an incline..Deal with it.
Again, this matters…

OK. Let’s call everything south of the freeway the South Side. Some of the TV stations identify locations on Moran Prairie as “the South Hill.” It’s a prairie, it’s flat. Go figure.
Spokane needs to come up with more specific neighborhood identifiers. To me, anything around the hospitals, particularly north of Sacred Heart and south of I-90 is iffy territory. Maybe we can do like Seattle and call the Sacred Heart/St. Luke’s/Deaconess/Shriner’s Hospital vicinity Pill Hill.
I bet the police and fire departments have some colorful names for certain neighborhoods. I like to refer to Hillyard as, ahem, “Lower Mead.”

Well how about this..I’d like everyone to walk up monroe..About the time you start getting tired is where the south hill starts..If you make it past 5th without saying “EFF THIS HILL”, then feel free to consider the beginning of the south hill as wherever you’d like..Until then, the south hill begins at 5th. End of story.

Teen age girl stabbed seems to have escaped this story.
