The 16U Northwest Dirtbags Baseball Club completed its summer season by winning championships at the Sports Forum Summer Sizzler in Yakima and the BPA Western Worlds Warmup in Fife, Wash.
The select team, which finished 31-7 overall, is made up of players from Eastern Washington and North Idaho. The team won four championships and placed third twice.
Team members are Leif Krapas (Coeur d’Alene), Cody Snider (Lake City), Pete Bakker (Lewiston), Bubba Duran (Coeur d’Alene), Daniel Mobeck (Lakeland), Eric Cooper (Lakeland), Travis Key (Ferris), Mike Schmidt (Coeur d’Alene), Sean Hill (Newport of Renton), Skyler Lookabill (Mead), Brandon Costello (Mead), Blake Bozett (Ferris) and Chance Riley (Central Valley). They were coached by Al Duran, Ken Johnson and Ed Snider.
Angelica Lengyel of Spokane has been awarded the American Morgan Horse Association Western Seat Silver Medal Award for her outstanding performance at the Far West Regional Morgan Horse Show in Redmond, Ore.
Lengyel, 13, qualified to compete for the Gold Medal at the 2010 Grand National and World Championship Morgan Horse Show in Oklahoma City, Okla., in October. Lengyel also earned a silver medal in Hunter Seat on the Flat at the Key Classic Morgan Horse Show in May.
Coeur d’Alene baseball standout Devon Austin was named the Idaho Louisville Slugger State High School Player of the Year.
Last spring, Austin, a catcher, was named the state’s Gatorade Player of the Year.
Austin announced last spring he had given an oral commitment to New Mexico State University. He denounced the commitment and has signed to play at College of Southern Idaho in Twin Falls.
Lakeland multisport standout Alyana Watson has signed a letter of intent to play softball at College of Southern Idaho.
In addition to softball, Watson played volleyball and basketball at Lakeland.
