Driver arrested after collision with police car
A Spokane Police officer in a patrol cruiser was involved in a collision with another vehicle early today, and the driver of the vehicle was arrested for driving under the influence, police said this morning.
Reports indicate that the accident occurred just before 1 a.m. at Fourth Avenue and Browne Street.
The officer and other driver were not injured. The police vehicle, which was struck in the front, was considered a total loss, said Officer Tim Moses, police spokesman.

I’m confused, the police officer was the sober one??? Did the suspect get a free ride home? It will be interesting to see if his/her employer puts them on paid administrative leave.

Man, those police cars are magnets for drunk drivers. We need to just park a dozen or so around town.

Hard to believe a trained police officer cant see a lone car coming at them at 1 in the morning. 5PM i can understand but 1am? Come on what was the cop doing smoking a joint?

It seems unfair to make all those comments about the SPD, but SPD has so violated the public’s trust by many past offensive behaviors that they have opened themselves up to the unfair critics.

The legitamate news agencies are reporting that the drunk ran a stop sign at 4th and Browne. Of course this blogpaper keeps the story sufficiently vague in order to feed the pond scum.

Hammer,
first, it’s legitimate.
and second, do you have a link to these “legitamate news agencies”

Lewis,
you seem to know so much about being a police officer, why don’t you take the test and show them how it’s done? Pretty easy to armchair quarterback everything that happens in Spokane, not so easy to get out there and put your life on the line to serve your community. If you spent half the time doing something productive as you do bitching about the cops, the world would be a better place. And I’ll bet the first thing you do when someone mugs you downtown (assuming you leave your house) is call one of those “joint smoking cops” to rush in and save your ass….. but then you’d complain that they didn’t get there fast enough.

JFRENCH,
based on other posts where you basically spew the same cry sack dribble, i’d say maybe you should spend half the time doing something productive as you do bitching about the people bitching about the cops.

Morons that bitch about the cops are the same who think rules are for everyone else - not them. They’re angry because the world has yet to recognize their true, yet undiscovered, innate special gifts. But, as I always say, the world needs janitors, cabbage pickers, and bus boys.
Albert on August 17 at 11:12 a.m.
Jfrench…you’re out of order. Oneanddone I would believe that one would not label Otto, or Shanto Pete to be a moron.
spokanada on August 17 at 12:12 p.m.
oneanddone, I think it is the cops that believe rules are for everyone else. That is why I made the comment about the ride home and the paid administrative leave.
Like Albert pointed out, we can talk about Otto and Shonto as well if you want.
PS, my special gift is common sense and the ability to get along with others. What is yours?

so a drunk driver hits a car, and its the other drivers fault? interesting.

Photos on Krem.com show that the SPD cruiser actually broadsided the SUV. Assuming the cruiser was traveling south on Bernard and the SUV east on fourth, then the cruiser had the right of way.
Still, I wonder how fast was the cruiser going? Did the driver of the SUV stop, but not have time to react?
The SPD has been involved in way too many collisions, and on an almost daily basis I see an SPD officer driving like a complete and total maniac with no regard for the safety of others, often without lights or siren. I think it is absolutely legitimate to question this story.

oneandone and Jfrench a buddy of mine was murdered by 7 of our finest and has YET to see one of those scumbags er officers in court of law for his murder. They are still pulling their 100 grand a year. When the day comes that one of not all of them are sent to prison that is the day i will blow a kiss to the SPD.
But i will tell you with their track record I don’t think that day is ever going to come. After fairy fly Olsen got off i think the reality of a cop in Spokane actually facing justice is pipe dream.
So don’t expect me to like em cause i don’t. I don’t like anyone i fear.
BitofBacon on August 17 at 6:24 p.m.
Lewis-just because the verdicts didn’t turn out the way you like doesn’t mean the officers did not get justice.
misjustice on August 17 at 8:45 p.m.
It is the citizens that don’t get justice…

Is FRENCHY related to DAN from AVISTA ! LOL I just think the SPD and SHERIFFS office should adopt and adhere to the WSP standards and code of ethics. LIFE WOULD BE MUCH BETTER!
