Indians’ bats blast Volcanoes

KEIZER, Ore. – The Spokane Indians should arrive home with a spring in their step after completing their longest road trip of the season Wednesday night with an offensive explosion.

The Indians had their biggest inning of the season, a 10-run fifth, and their biggest run total in a 17-1 Northwest League win over Salem-Keizer at Volcanoes Stadium.

Spokane won the series 3-2 and was 3-5 on the trip.

Jurickson Profar led Spokane’s onslaught, scoring four runs and hitting a three-run homer in the ninth. Brett Nicholas scored three runs and Jake Skole went 3 for 5 with two runs and two RBIs.

Nicholas McBride (2-4) allowed four hits and no earned runs in six innings to earn his first win since July 5.

Volcanoes starter Shane Kaufman (1-3) faced eight batters in the fifth without recording an out. Andrew Clark’s three-run double to center ended his night.

• Individual game tickets to Indians NWL home playoff games go on sale Friday. Spokane will host Game 2 and (if necessary) Game 3 of the first-round series on Sept. 7 and 8. If they win that series, the Indians will also host Game 1 of the championship series on Sept. 9.
