Twin brothers, 39, hurt in crash

From Staff Reports

Twin brothers were injured after a crash Wednesday night that wrecked their pickup and damaged two cars.

Kenton R. and Brian D. Kovarik, both 39, were southbound on Progress Road in a Ford F-350 at 10:10 p.m. when they rolled through a stop sign at 16th Avenue, according to Spokane Valley police. They were moving at a “high rate of speed,” police said.

A 1998 Buick driven by Jeric J. McDonald entered the intersection and clipped the back of the truck, sending it sliding into a curb. The impact with the curb sent the truck rolling through a power pole, a fence and a storage building.

Both brothers were ejected from the truck; police said they are not sure who was driving.

Kenton, from Veradale, is reportedly paralyzed, police said. He was in critical condition Thursday night at Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center, while Brian is in satisfactory condition, according to a nursing supervisor.

The truck’s spare tire hit and damaged a parked car half a block from the accident.

Police believe alcohol may have been a factor in the crash, as there were “beer cans everywhere,” police said.
