Doctors removing knife plunged in man’s head

A 19-year-old man in Spokane underwent surgery this morning to remove a knife that was lodged in his head following a stabbing about 2 a.m. in the downtown area. Spokane police said they arrested Mary M. Goings, 21, about two hours after the stabbing and booked her into Spokane County Jail on a charge of first-degree assault. The victim was reported in serious condition at a Spokane hospital following the incident at Second Avenue and Howard Street. Police said the man maintained consciousness despite having a knife blade stuck in his head.
