Pittman heads Cougs to win

 

Tiara Pittman (Mt. Spokane) notched a goal in the 74th minute to earn Washington State its first victory of the season, 1-0 over the University of Utah at the Washington State University Invitational in Pullman on Saturday.

Shannon McFadden served the ball from wide on the right side to Pittman, who nodded home the decisive header for the Cougars (1-1). Meghan Berlingo made four saves to shutout the Utes (0-2).

• Goals early in each half gave Florida State a 2-0 win over Gonzaga in the championship game of the WSU Invitational.

Tori Huster scored two minutes into the contest on a close-range shot that beat Bulldogs goalkeeper Lauren Ames.

Florida State added its second tally in the 47th minute through Janice Cayman.

The Seminoles (2-0) outshot the Zags 10-1 in the first half and 18-3 in the match. Ames made seven saves.
