Vote is Tuesday on Rathdrum Prairie trade school levy

Voters in the Coeur d’Alene, Post Falls and Lakeland school districts will go to the polls Tuesday to decide whether to pay more property taxes for two years to build a professional-technical high school on the Rathdrum Prairie. Voters in the Coeur d’Alene School District would pay an additional 35 cents per $1,000 of assessed value. In the Lakeland district, the levy rate would be 50 cents per $1,000, and in Post Falls, 55 cents. However, Post Falls taxpayers would not see an increase because of the reduction of other taxes. The measures need 55 percent approval to pass. The levy would raise $9.5 million to build the high school, which organizers say would open in 2013 with 180 students from the three districts. Polling places are open from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Coeur d’Alene polling places: Lake City, Coeur d’Alene and Project CDA high schools, Lakes Magnet Middle School, and Hayden Meadows and Ramsey elementary schools. Lakeland polling places: Athol, Betty Kiefer, Garwood, John Brown, Spirit Lake and Twin Lakes elementary schools, Hauser Fire Station and Bayview Community Center. Post Falls polling places: Frederick Post Kindergarten, and Ponderosa and Prairie View elementary schools.
