Bike-riding crook robs North Spokane bank

Around 4 p.m. today, a man robbed a Washington Trust Bank in North Spokane and pedaled away on a bicycle. The suspect showed a gun at the bank, located at 7815 N. Division St., and collected an undisclosed amount of money, said Jennifer DeRuwe, a Spokane Police spokeswoman. Federal agents believe the suspect is a white male, about six-feet-tall with a medium build. He wore a ski mask, a long-sleeved white shirt and a backpack, said Frank Harrill, an FBI spokesman. This robbery appears to be consistent with other bank robberies recently in Spokane, Harrill said. After a July 28 bank robbery at the Spokane Teachers Credit Union on Indian Trail Road, the robber also rode away on a bicycle. This same robber is also suspect for five other bank robberies dating back to December of 2009, according to Spokesman reports. Anyone with information is asked to call the FBI’s Spokane office at (509) 747-5195, extension 2. If it’s after hours, call (206) 622-0460.
