Defense of leaks insulting

As a wounded World War II veteran, I was extremely offended by Mr. Brookbank’s scurrilous letter (Aug. 12) saluting the recent Wikileaks disclosures of sensitive U.S. documents regarding our war in Afghanistan.

In addition to recklessly accusing the U.S. military of war crimes, he alleges that our military is wantonly killing innocent Afghan civilians. I wish to remind him that it was al-Qaida, aided by their lackeys the Taliban, who killed 3,000 innocent American civilians on 9/11.

Furthermore, his freedom to express his opinions was bought and paid for by the brave men and women of the very military he slanders.

In summary, Mr. Brookbank deserves a good thrashing and, despite being 86 years old and crippled, I’d like to give it to him.
