Deer Park man killed in Hwy. 2 accident

A 29-year-old Deer Park man died after his car crossed the center line of Highway 2 and collided head-on with another car shortly after noon today.

Jason Robert McDowell was northbound on Hwy. 2 in a 1987 Subaru GL about 2 miles north of Chattaroy when he crossed over to the southbound lane and crashed into a 1997 Chevy Tahoe driven by Derris Casselman, 68, of Elk.

McDowell died at the scene, the Washington State Patrol reported. Casselman was transported via Medstar to Providence Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane, where he was in stable condition this afternoon. His passenger, Arlene Pearl Casselman, 66, was taken by ambulance to Sacred Heart, where she also was in stable condition today, a nursing supervisor said.

The crash blocked both lanes of the highway for more than three hours this afternoon.
