Have faith in our principles

You don’t need to go to New York City to consider what the impact of an Islamic Center might be.

We have a mosque in Pullman. It is just down the street from our home, next door to the Church of Christ and two to six blocks within reach of two Lutheran churches, an Episcopal church, a Presbyterian church and a church of the Latter-Day Saints.

On holy days, members of each group go to their own house of worship and attend services as they choose. Other people in the neighborhood don’t go to church at all.

Somehow we manage to accommodate this diversity in complete peace and acceptance. Isn’t that the way it is supposed to be in a country founded on principles of religious freedom and tolerance?
