Ruby Lane features apparel with flair

A Spokane Valley mother of seven added a bit to her to-do list this summer when she decided to open a specialty retail shop and revamp a quaint building along Pines Road.

Jani Davis opened Ruby Lane Boutique July 8 after adding some elbow grease and her obvious creative flair to the little house she purchased. The timing was right, she said, to open such a long-awaited shop featuring clothing, handbags and jewelry.

“I’ve been a stay-at-home mom for 27 years, and I got to the point where I was a little bored. My baby is 9… I just went for it,” said Davis. “All my kids have helped pull it all together.”

Her job as mother remains top priority, she ensures: “This is second.” And with daughters and daughters-in-law employed at the shop, work is close to home – literally and otherwise.

Davis recently returned from a trip to market and says she is attempting to fill her store with items and brands not typically found in the area. She’s hopeful her selections of sizes and styles will attract customers from age 16 to 65 and beyond.

Ruby Lane Boutique includes one dressing room and three main retail rooms filled with eye candy such as the chunky and colorful jewelry displays, the wall of brightly colored handbags, specialty denim brands, festive blouses and fall sweaters.

Business has been good thus far, Davis says.

“At first, I thought it was going to be all my friends. But I’ve met so many wonderful people.”

Davis says she plans to remain competitive by choosing quality items that are fun and interesting and being conscientious with her markups.
