Seattle police: Officer fatally shoots man armed with knife
SEATTLE — A Seattle police spokeswoman says an officer has fatally shot a man armed with a knife.
Spokeswoman Renee Witt says the officer spotted a man holding a knife and apparently whittling a piece of wood Monday afternoon at Boren Avenue and Howell Street. When the officer pulled his patrol car over, she says the man stood up from his seat on a wall and approached. Witt says the man ignored several orders to stop and kept approaching the officer. The officer opened fire.
The Seattle Times says the names of the officer and the dead man were not immediately released.

How many people have died from a taser? Next thing you know you all will want the officers to carry marshmallows to throw instead of real weapons so the criminal won’t get hurt.
Geeze Louise!!

the guy was probably deaf. a 100 grand a year cop knows no other take down solutions then just shooting?
So lets see here you cant carry a gun on your own property and you cant whittle wood on your own property, what the hell am I paying property taxes for?

When will we (regular law abiding citizens) demand police change their ready, willing and ableness to kill people. I just don’t get it - I thought that one of the things that makes America great is the courts (and our police) have to prove our guilt - in court - not our yards or businesses (even folks caught doing crimes are presumed innocent right!?) - sure it’s a dangerous job (being a cop - as well as being a criminal), but that’s no excuse to kill each other…. So what will it take? Citizens demanding prosecutors prosecute and charge these folks with manslaughter. How many of us are getting killed like this accidentally each year? I bet it’s in the thousands….

what the seatle cops dont have the skills to shoot in the arms or legs, guess not they r so skilled,m or so one one would think, that is why most honest people protect themselves.

Lewis, where in the world do you keep getting that cops make $100k a yr?? dude, whatever you are smokin- share with the rest of us.

its really sad the ignorance that shows up on here. Come after someone with a knife, cop or not, and that person has a right to defend themselves- which includes shooting you. Cops dont train to shoot in the arms or legs, keep watching those hollywood movies people. They shoot for center mass and to stop the threat. If stopping the threat ends up in that person dying, so be it. Don’t go after a cop with a knife…matter of fact, don’t go after anyone with a knife and you’re chances of living longer increase.
Too sad that common sense has long gone out the window.

@JayNW, you know, you’re right, the ignorance is sad. Especially when it comes in the form of the pot calling the kettle black.
The man was half deaf and stood with his back to the officer. Witnesses say that he did not respond or make any aggressive motions toward the officer for which he was subsequently shot FOUR TIMES for holding a 3 inch blade in his hand, which as far as I know is perfectly legal and less lethal than the knife you cut your pork with.
Get your facts (and I don’t mean the Glenn Beck “common sense” facts either) before you default to defending sanctioned thugs and to avoid making yourself look like the limited person you so obviously are.
Oh, and police salaries base pay can be upwards of 70K a year, tack on overtime, general extortion, corruption, missing evidence, and stolen property under the guise of confiscation and 100k is no stretch of the imagination.
