Area roundup: Colbert guides Post Falls to opening-game win

Point guard Marcus Colbert scored 27 points and Connor Hill added 19 as Post Falls opened its boys basketball season Wednesday with an 82-66 nonleague win over visiting Shadle Park.

The Trojans scored 52 second-half points. Brett Boese led Shadle (0-1) with 21 points.

• In other nonleaguers, Trey Sobotta scored 12 points, hitting 7 of 8 free throws, to help Clarkston (1-0) to a 54-28 win over visiting Moscow (0-1). … Brian Smith scored 14 points to help Coeur d’Alene Charter (1-0) to a 47-38 win at St. Michael’s. Chris Shelley hit three 3-pointers and scored 17 points for the Warriors (0-1). … Coeur d’Alene’s game at Central Valley was postponed until Saturday.

Girls basketball

Jamie Weisner scored 25 points to lift Clarkston (1-0) to a 58-46 nonleague win over visiting Moscow (1-4).

Women’s basketball

Marjorie Heard’s 3-pointer with 3 seconds left gave Washington (3-2) a 58-55 nonconference win over Utah (3-4) at Salt Lake City.

Utah led 55-53 after Iwalani Rodrigues’ 3-pointer, but Sarah Morton, who led the Huskies with 20 points, hit two free throws with 46 seconds left to tie the game.

Volleyball

Deddiy Alaimaleata had 10 kills and hit .833 and Nicole Graybeal (North Central High) added eight kills as Lewis-Clark State (29-2) defeated Malone (Ohio) College 25-16, 25-19, 25-14 at the NAIA national tournament in Sioux City, Iowa.

Kelli Tikker (Lakeside-Nine Mile Falls High) added seven kills for the Warriors, who must defeat fourth-ranked Northwestern (Iowa) College (36-1) today to advance out of pool play.

Senior libero Katie Hinrichs (Pullman High) added 20 digs.
