Religion Notebook: Lego menorah planned
In celebration of Hanukkah, Chabad of Spokane County will construct a giant Lego menorah Sunday at the South Side Community Center, 3151 E. 27th Ave.
The afternoon kicks off with the construction of the 10-foot-wide menorah from 1 to 3 p.m. There will also be Hanukkah-themed arts and crafts, candle making, Hanukkah treats and more.
At 4 p.m., when the menorah is complete, special lanterns will be inserted into it for lighting.
“The program has always been popular with parents because it lets kids learn about the holiday in an interactive way, and the kids love it because they really have a lot of fun,” said Rabbi Yisroel Hahn.
“In ancient times our ancestors rededicated the Temple in Jerusalem with the menorah,” Hahn said. “Today, we rededicate ourselves to making this world a better and brighter place.”
The cost to attend is a suggested donation of $8.

Bluegrass concert
St. Peter Lutheran Church, 4620 N. Regal St., will present the Bluegrass Union Band at a Country Gospel Concert Friday at 7 p.m.

Musical Christmas drama
First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present “A Time for Christmas,” a musical drama featuring the church’s 40-voice choir, Friday at 7 p.m., Saturday at 2 and 7 p.m. and Sunday at 6 p.m.
The story revolves around a modern-day workaholic named Bill who journeys back in time to the Bethlehem shepherds, to when Christmas was outlawed, to a medieval castle, to a Dickensian orphanage, and back to present day, when Bill takes a look at his own hard-heartedness.
The cost to attend is $5 per person and includes dessert, except for the Sunday performance, which will not include dessert and will be free of charge.

Children’s program rehearsals
The Butterfly Crossing Children’s Choir will perform a short program at Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd., Dec. 19 at 10:30 a.m.
The choir is inviting children from kindergarten through middle school to participate in the concert and will hold rehearsals before the show.
Rehearsal times will be Sunday, Dec. 12 and Dec. 19 from 10 to 10:30 a.m.

Breakfast with Santa
First Church of the Nazarene, 9004 N. Country Homes Blvd., will present Breakfast with Santa on Dec. 11 at 8:30 a.m.
The morning will include a hearty breakfast, pictures with Santa, face painting, a visit from Mrs. Claus, and crafts.
Tickets are only available in advance through Dec. 10 between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. in the church office. Tickets for children 12 and younger will be available for $3; $4 for adults.

Celtic service
St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will present its next Celtic Celebration “Mindfulness,” today at 7 p.m.
The contemplative service will include a Christian service of communion, sung chants, Celtic prayers and music.
A potluck reception will follow the service.

Book release party
The Book Parlor, 1425 W. Broadway Ave., will present a release party for the book, “Common Prayer: A Liturgy for Ordinary Radicals,” by Shane Claiborne, Jonathan Wilson-Hartgrove and Enuma Okoro on Tuesday at 5:30 p.m.
The event will include food, prayer and song.

Special guests
St. Gregorios Malankara Orthodox Syrian Parish, 2803 N. Lincoln St., will present Bishop Nicholovos of the Northeast America Diocese of the Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church and Bishop Eusebios of the Southwest Diocese Sunday to coincide with the parish feast of St. Nicholas.
Morning prayers will begin at 9 a.m. and Holy Qurbana will be at 9:30 a.m.
A free lunch will follow the service.
