City plows make headway

Snow plowing is going better than expected in Spokane, with city officials now predicting the work will be done by late Sunday. The city has been operating since Thursday under a stage 2 snow emergency, meaning plowing continues all hours and cars parked in the way of the plows can be towed. Parking restrictions remain in effect tonight, as follows:  In residential areas, parking is allowed only on the even sides of streets, as determined by the addresses on houses.  Browne’s Addition residents receive separate notification of plowing, with detailed parking information.  Downtown, parking is restricted between 2 a.m. and 6 a.m. Sunday.  No parked cars are allowed on arterials or STA fixed bus routes. City spokeswoman Marlene Feist wrote in a press release that crews working on the south side had completed residential plow routes 1,2,4,5 and 24, and were continued to work on routes 3, 20 and 21. Those working on the north side had finished residential plow routes 9, 13, 22 and 23, and were working in routes 6, 7, 8 and 10, wrote Feist, adding that route 12 would be next. But officials warned that “the berms left at the end of driveways would be heavy and difficult to move, especially as temperatures drop,” city spokeswoman Marlene Feist wrote in a press release. “Large ice chunks are likely.” The National Weather Service says the next chance of snow is Tuesday night, but it’s not likely to be significant.
