Area roundup: Cowgirls beat visiting Vandals in basketball

Chaundra Sewell scored 23 points and Wyoming beat Idaho 68-55 Saturday in nonleague women’s basketball action in Laramie, Wyo.

The Cowgirls (5-2) began to pull away from Idaho (5-2) midway through the first half and entered the second half with a 12-point margin – 33-21 – and held the lead the rest of the game.

Derisa Taleni had 17 points, nine rebounds and two steals for the Vandals. Ganeaya Rogers added 11 points and Shaena-Lyn Kuehu had eight points and six rebounds for Idaho.

Linfield 43, Whitworth 36: Gretchen Owens and Kaely Maltman combined for 34 points and 17 rebounds to lead the Wildcats (4-3, 1-1) to a win over the Pirates (3-3, 1-1) in Northwest Conference play in McMinnville, Ore.

The Pirates were led by eight points each from Taylor LaMoreaux and Kayla Johnson.

Whitworth saw its three-game winning streak come to an end and suffered a 12-minute scoring drought during the first half.

CC Spokane 46, Highline CC 38: Brooke Randall scored 10 points to lead the Sasquatch (3-1) to a victory over the Thunderbirds (2-4) at the Bellevue Tournament in Bellevue.

Neither team shot better than 31 percent from the field, but the Sasquatch managed to build a 12-point lead late in the second half and held on to earn the win.

CCS plays Bellevue in the championship game today at 3 p.m.
