Animal confirmed as wolf-dog hybrid

POCATELLO, Idaho – State officials say genetic testing has confirmed that an animal that killed a lamb in eastern Idaho and was then shot and killed by a sheepherder last summer was a wolf-dog hybrid.

Idaho Department of Fish and Game spokeswoman Jennifer Jackson said one of its parents was a purebred German shepherd.

The 94-pound male was killed on July 6.
