NC boys sixth at Nike Cross Nationals

Casey Adams and Vincent Hamilton had top-15 finishes to lead North Central’s boys (running as North Spokane XC Club) to sixth place Saturday at the Nike Cross Nationals at Portland Meadows. Adams (12th at 16:40.9 over 5,000 meters) and Hamilton (13th, 16:41.1) finished side by side. Arcadia (Calif.) won the team title. Lewis and Clark, running as Central Spokane XC Club, finished 15th in the 22-school meet. LC’s Kenji Bierig had the top finish among Spokane boys, taking 10th in 16:30.5. Spokane’s lone girl in the race, NC’s Katie Knight, was eighth in 18:53.3.

• At the Foot Locker West Regional at Mt. San Antonio College in Walnut, Calif., three area runners qualified for the national meet at San Diego on Saturday. Andrew Gardner (in photo) of Mead was second in the boys race in 15:35 and Nathan Weitz fifth in 15:45. Kendra Weitz, sixth in the girls race in 18:23, and her brother are the first brother-sister combination to qualify for nationals. They ran for Shadle Park during the prep season.
