Asay rides to victory at NFR

LAS VEGAS – Wyoming bull rider Kanin Asay won his second straight round in the National Finals Rodeo on Sunday night, scoring 88.5 points on Foolish Pride.

Cody Whitney, from Asaher, Okla., was second, finishing with an 87.5 on Mission Accomplished. He leads the aggregate standings with 334.5 points.

In steer wrestling, Matt Reeves of Cross Plains, Texas, won with a 3.4-second run to earn his first check in the rodeo.

In bareback riding, Kaycee Feild of Payson, Utah, won his second round this year with an 87 on Outa Sight.

Ryan Gray of Cheney, who suffered a lacerated liver when he was stepped on by Golden Dream in the second round, was moved from the intensive care unit into a hospital room at University Medical Center on Saturday. He will remain hospitalized until Tuesday, according to Dr. Tandy Freeman. Gray is facing three to six months of recovery time before he can return to competition.
