Stepfather accused of cruelty to girl
An 18-year-old Hayden man is facing child cruelty charges after deputies say he placed a 25-pound bag on his stepdaughter to stop her from moving.
Zacharee J. Wright said the youngster was unable to sleep, so he placed her facedown on a concrete floor Sunday with no pillows or blankets and put a bag of dried drink mix on her legs, according to a report from Kootenai County Sheriff’s Deputy Matthew Edmunds. The girl’s age was unavailable, but reports show she was born in 2009.
Wright and his wife, the girl’s mother, live in the basement of the home at 1106 E. Whispering Pines Road. A family member called police about 5:30 p.m. after discovering the girl whimpering in the storage room. Wright told investigators he left the girl in the room for about 30 minutes and checked on her every 10 minutes.
The girl had red marks on her face and was dirty but not seriously injured, according to the report.

The baby was unable to sleep. So, putting her face down on a concrete floor and putting 25lbs. on her legs was akin to rocking her to sleep with a lullaby? What a putz!
Was step-daddy arrested?

So did CPS take the child away… or will we be reading of a death in a few months or a year… children that were not parented well themselves… do NOT make adequate parents… j

this guy is a kid himself. Kids having kids after they don’t have any proper parenting at home.
Our society is badly broken and sadly no one seems to care.

I agree with some of the other posters - our society is broken - we have too many kids having kids. I interviewed an expert in child abuse recently and was told that with the increase in the number of teenagers having babies, there has been a dramatic increase in cases of child abuse. There is a direct corrolation between the two… something needs to be done!
My son graduated just a few years ago and there was a girl in his class that had THREE children. She was applauded and praised for graduating after having the three kids (she had her first child in middle school). I was livid! What kind of message is that? And what future do those children really have???

One of the key variables identified repeatedly by researchers which correlates to teen pregnancy and child bearing is the young woman’s sense of the future. Although this points to individual psychological remedies we, the adults, need to seriously consider how we have made it nearly irrational for so many kids, especially those living in poverty, to consider the idea that they have a future. These are things to consider that have no easy answers though throwing up our hands is not an option.

Racingmom, I wanted to throw up when i read your comment.
Your son’s school APPLAUDED a teen for having 3 children and making it through high school? Disgusting. How about we applaud the teens who are actually men and women enough to know that in order for their children to have a proper upbringing, they as parents need to do more than just “make it through high school”. How about we applaud the those who know how to use protection, or better yet stay abstinent? I’ll reserve my applause for THOSE TEENS. I am not going to have to see my hardearned tax dollars go to pay for food stamps for THEIR ignorance.
Since it is clear that we in northern Idaho are not winning any parenting awards as of lately (pushing kids to their death, setting heavy sacks on them to keep them from moving, letting them run around covered in feces), those of us who are good parents need to stand up. I’m appalled and sick of the bad parenting (which is a likely result from rewarding mediocrity, or less than). There ARE good parents here in Northern Idaho, and we need to stand up and put an end to this bull**** that is happening to the youth here. We need to make sure that we are raising tomorrow’s leaders and tomorrow’s good parents… not tomorrow’s trash.
