I have found that shopping locally is calmer and more satisfying than big box stores. We have some good choices in the Elk-Chattaroy area. Karen’s Gifts & More at 28114 N. There are a wide variety of shops for gifts, jewelry, kitchen items, men’s, women’s and children’s clothing and accessories, artworks, computers and accessories and plenty of places for a good meal or a nice, hot drink.
Take some time to enjoy a little seasonal entertainment. The first Riverside/Deer Park Band performance of the year will be next Thursday at 7 p.m. in the new Ken Fisher Performing Arts Center at Deer Park High School. The concert will feature the combined Riverside and Deer Park Concert Bands, as well as the Riverside Jazz Band. There will be a silent auction fundraiser at the concert.
The Elk Community Church in downtown Elk will host its Tree Lighting and Christmas Caroling on Dec. 22 at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome to join in and enjoy some hot cocoa.
Horse racing at the Elk VFW takes place tonight and on Dec. 23 at 5 p.m. Tonight will be the last chance to buy Rifle Raffle tickets as the drawing will be held after the races. Dinner will be available. All proceeds go to support the veterans of Elk VFW Post No. 5924.
