Protecting the privileged

We hear that the Republicans rode their landslide into victory based off the “common man’s” rage. But let’s look at the recent Republican voting tally.

They voted against the temporary extension of jobless benefits, which will deprive 2 million unemployed Americans of their checks by the end of December; they blocked legislation that would have fed healthy meals to thousands of hungry schoolchildren; they support extending the Bush tax cuts for the very wealthy – a move that will add hundreds of billions to the national debt.

Is this the change that America supposedly desired? As shown in the Reagan era and on down through Bush Jr., the Republicans will bolster the revenues of the elite, while cutting social services, stripping infrastructure projects, and gutting labor rights.
