Freeman FBLA offering free child care Dec. 18

Freeman High School’s Future Business Leaders of America will present “Freeman Cares 4 Kids,” at the school, 14626 S. Jackson Road, Dec. 18 from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

The annual event provides free child care for kids in kindergarten through the fifth grade while their parents can go Christmas shopping, decorate their houses or go to a movie.

While their parents are gone, children can participate in crafts and games, watch movies, have snacks and more.

It’s been a busy school year for the FBLA, which now has 74 members. Among other activities, eight of those students cleaned up a two-mile stretch of Highway 27 between Darknell Road and the Palouse Highway on Oct. 30. They collected more than over 45 bags of trash.

Thirty-six of the students traveled to Portland to participate in the Sports Business Day with the Portland Trailblazers from Nov. 17 through 19.

They visited the Oregon Zoo where they spent some classroom time with the zoo curator and the operations manager. They also received a tour of the Rose Garden and heard from Blazer representatives about marketing, public relations and management.

Construction bond information nights

Central Valley School District will host several more information sessions regarding its upcoming construction bond upon which voters will decide Feb. 8.

Superintendent Ben Small will discuss the district’s $69.6 million proposal which will modernize and expand Evergreen Middle School, build a new elementary school at Mission Avenue and Long Road, modernize and expand Opportunity, Ponderosa, Greenacres and Chester elementary schools and upgrade security systems in buildings throughout the district.

He will also discuss the district’s long-range plans regarding its facilities.

Parents, community members and employees are invited to attend any of the five presentations:

Jan. 3 at 6 p.m. at Greenacres Middle School, 17409 E. Sprague Ave.; Jan. 12 at 6 p.m. at Horizon Middle School, 3915 S. Pines Road; Jan. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at Bowdish Middle School, 2109 S. Skipworth Road; Jan. 21 at 6 p.m. at Evergreen Middle School, 14221 E. 16th Ave.
