It’s early, obviously, but look who is atop the Greater Spokane League boys basketball standings after two games.
The Rogers Pirates are off to a 2-0 start, using a couple of big 3-pointers in the fourth quarter to pull away from the visiting North Central Indians 70-63 on Friday.
Tied at 50 going into the fourth quarter, the Pirates got just enough cushion to remain unbeaten in league.
Each team had four players score in double figures. Deavon Daniels led Rogers, 2-1 overall, with a season-high 23 points, 13 in the second half, while Gunnar Swagger led NC (1-2, 1-1) with 16.
University 62, Shadle Park 53: Three Titans (3-0, 2-0) scored in double figures in the victory over the visiting Highlanders (1-3, 0-2). Jared Miller and Brett Bailey scored 14 points apiece and Zech Martin added 12. Brett Boese led Shadle with 17.
Gonzaga Prep 52, Central Valley 40: In a defensive struggle, the Bullpups (1-1, 1-0) clamped down when it counted most in the fourth quarter over the visiting Bears (2-1, 1-1). Chris Sarbaugh had two steals and capped a run that saw G-Prep separate with a dunk. Parker Kelly led the Bullpups with 18 points and Shane Schmidlkofer had 11.
Mead 52, Lewis and Clark 48: The Panthers (2-2, 1-1) made a 33-29 halftime lead hold up in the second half over the visiting Tigers (0-4, 0-2). Four players finished in double figures for Mead. Forrest Baker scored 11 of his 13 points in the second half, Ryan Corker had 11 and Nolan Bliss and Matt Elmore had 10 apiece. Andy Wetzel had five assists. Austin Dixon led LC with 14 points. Mead shot 45 percent from the floor (23 of 51) to LC’s 31 percent (15 of 48).
