Ferris deserved better

Front-page news, the Washington State University Cougars are anointed front sports page coverage for losing another football game. What’s wrong with this paradigm?

The undefeated (14-0) Ferris Saxons’ 24-16 victory over the Skyline Spartans in the Tacoma Dome on Dec. 4 should not have been relegated to C5 of the sports page. Undefeated Ferris is newsworthy of a front-page story, not that of a chronically losing college football team.

The Ferris Saxons are real, they’re tangible, and they are a community-based athletic team with deep roots in Spokane.

S-R Sports should rewrite that front-page article for coach Jim Sharkey and his Fighting Saxons.
