Snubbed Auburn quarterback Cam Newton wasn’t selected to the Football Writers Association of America’s All-America team released Saturday. Newton, the Heisman Trophy winner, was left off in favor of Boise State quarterback Kellen Moore by a panel of 12 FWAA members. “Me not being on somebody’s ballot or All-America team, it really doesn’t affect me because I think there’s a lot of players in the NCAA that (are) very deserving of many awards, many All-Americans,” Newton said. “I can’t be selfish to just say it’s all about me because these guys go out and play excellent football Saturday just like I try to.” Newton was the nation’s top-rated passer.

Traded The Boston Bruins sent forward Marco Sturm to the Los Angeles Kings in a trade that brings Boston salary cap space – but nothing else – in return. The trade is contingent on Sturm passing a physical. Sturm has been on the injured list all season recovering from right knee surgery.

Agreed Arkansas football coach Bobby Petrino agreed to a new seven-year contract through the 2017 season. Expects Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington has a gut feeling about Cliff Lee. “That he’ll be here,” Washington said. The Rangers and New York Yankees are waiting for a decision on which offer the 32-year-old left- hander will accept. They are the two known bidders for the $100 million-plus pitcher, although there may be others. The Yankees offered Lee a seven-year contract Thursday. Rangers owner Chuck Greenberg went to Arkansas on Thursday to personally present Lee with multiple offers. The decision might not come until Monday or later in the week.
