Sherritt, Jones make first team All-America team

Eastern Washington’s senior linebacker J.C. Sherritt and junior running back Taiwan Jones have both been named to the first team of the Associated Press FCS All-America Team. Eight Big Sky Conference players have been selected to the team, including six to the first team. In addition to Jones and Sherritt, Montana State kicker Jason Cunningham, Bobcat offensive tackle Mike Person, Idaho State punter David Harrington and Montana cornerback Trumaine Johnson also made the team. Sacramento State defensive end Zack Nash and Idaho State all-purpose player Tavoy Moore were tabbed to the second team. The Big Sky’s six first-team selections was double the amount of any other conference. The Southern Conference and Colonial Athletic Conference both placed three on the first team. Sherritt, a 5-foot-10, 220-pound senior from Pullman, was selected as the Big Sky Conference Defensive MVP and is a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award. Sherritt enters Friday’s semifinal game against Villanova with 150 total tackles – 13.5 for loss – three sacks, three interceptions and three forced fumbles. Sherritt ranks second in Big Sky history with 406 career tackles. Sherritt has also been named an All-American by the American Football Coaches Association and the Walter Camp Football Foundation. Jones, a 6-1, 200-pound junior from Antioch, Calif., ranks second in the nation in rushing and scoring offense. He has rushed for 1,742 yards with an amazing 7.9 yards per carry average. Jones has 2,421 all-purpose yards and 17 total touchdowns. Jones was named to the AFCA All-America Team. Jones and Montana State QB Denarius McGhee were named Co-Offensive Big Sky MVP.
