Notebook: Pageant at St. Patrick connects Santa, Jesus

St. Patrick Catholic School, 2706 E. Queen Ave., will present its annual Christmas program today at 7 p.m.

“The St. Nicholas Pageant,” an original play by Deborah Dresser, includes a full Nativity and will make clear the connection between St. Nicholas and the birth of Jesus.

St. Nicholas was a Catholic bishop in the fourth century in what is now Turkey. He has since been called Santa Claus.

Children’s concert

Audubon Park United Methodist Church, 3908 N. Driscoll Blvd., will present “Butterfly Crossing,” a special Christmas program by the church’s children’s choir, Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Worship services

• Fowler United Methodist Church , 3928 N. Howard St., will present a Christmas worship service with special music Sunday at 10:30 a.m.

Gloria Dei Lutheran Church will present Word and Sacrament Sunday to celebrate Advent and the Christmas season.

The service will be held at Howard Johnson Inn, 3033 N. Division St., in the Community Room.

A potluck supper and fellowship will follow the service.

A coffee fellowship will begin at 10 a.m., the service at 10:30 a.m. and the potluck at 11:30 a.m.

Live Nativity

Latah Valley Presbyterian Church, 202 E. Meadow Lane Road, will present a live Nativity on Sunday from 5 to 7 p.m.

Winter solstice

Unitarian Universalist Church, 4340 Fort George Wright Drive, will present a winter solstice singing ritual Tuesday at 6:30 p.m.

The longest night of the year will be celebrated with an 18-voice women’s choir, candlelight and stories.

St. David’s Episcopal Church, 7315 N. Wall St., will present a Celtic celebration for the solstice today at 7 p.m.

The service will include a blessing and a sharing of fire to celebrate the solstice and the coming of Christ. A party will follow the service.

Christmas dinner

Central Baptist Church, 19 W. Shannon Ave., will present a clothing give-away with Christmas dinner Saturday from 4 to 6 p.m.

The event is free and all ages are invited.

Singles groups

Christian Singles Fellowship will present its December meeting Saturday at 6:30 p.m. at North Addison Baptist Church, 6120 N. Addison St.

The meeting will include the group’s Christmas celebration and potluck. Ham and turkey will be provided.
