Area roundup: Host Newport takes tourney title

 

Taylor Lewis filled out the statistical book, scoring a game-high 16 points to go with five assists, five rebounds and five steals to lead the Newport Grizzlies over the Priest River Spartans 52-43 in championship game of the Newport Holiday Tournament.

Haley Odell had 13 rebounds for the Grizzlies (8-0). Liz Halcro led Priest River (1-5) with 11 points.

Riverside 44, Cusick 27: In the game for third at the Newport Holiday Tournament, the Rams (2-4) used a strong second half to stop the Panthers (0-3). Courtney Davis led the Rams with 20 points, 19 rebounds and four steals. Andrea Heinen led Cusick with 16 points.

Intermountain

Timberlake 43, Kellogg 38: Cassie Thompson scored 19 points and Kara Wenstrom added 15 as the Tigers (7-3 overall, 2-0 league) topped the Wildcats (3-6, 0-2) at Kellogg.

Marah Ashcroft led Kellogg with 18 points, 12 coming in the fourth quarter.

Bi-County 2B

Reardan 69, Liberty 13: Kelsey Moos had a game-high 24 points to lead the Indians (5-1, 4-0) past the visiting Lancers (1-4, 0-3). Reardan also received 12 points and eight rebounds from Katy Burge.

Kettle Falls 68, Northwest Christian 42: Nikka Yankus yanked down 14 rebounds and scored 17 points to lead the Bulldogs (4-3, 3-1) over the visiting Crusaders (2-2, 1-1). Kelli Shaw had 12 points for NWC.

Colfax 50, Davenport 32: Amelie Bruya had a team-high 18 points to lead the visiting Bulldogs (1-2, 1-0) over the Gorillas (1-3, 1-2). Colfax freshman Nicole Sheer had nine rebounds. Miranda Mielke led Davenport with 21 points and four rebounds.

St. George’s 40, Springdale 36: The Dragons (3-2. 2-0) dominated the boards, using 24 offensive rebounds to stop the visiting Chargers (3-3, 0-2). Brenna Russell led St. George’s with 11 points and 13 rebounds. Alicea Morrell led Springdale with 11 points.

Southeast 1B

Colton 61, Tekoa-Oakesdale 8: Haley Moser had 14 points and Mollie Kramer had 13 as the Wildcats (5-1, 4-0) topped the visiting Nighthawks (3-4, 1-3). The Wildcats held T-O scoreless in the second half while taking just 12 shots.

St. John-Endicott 51, Rosalia 43: Alli Winters had 21 points and six assists as the visiting Eagles (6-0, 4-0) held off the Spartans (5-2, 2-2). Briann Maley had 13 for Rosalia.

Pomeroy 40, Garfield-Palouse 22: Karlie Martin had 16 points and Kindsey Bott had 13 to lead the visiting Pirates (4-2, 2-2) over the Vikings (3-4, 0-3).

Panorama

Columbia 76, Curlew 35: Elizabeth Larrew had 24 points, 10 in the first quarter, as the host Lions (7-0, 3-0) downed the Cougars (4-2, 1-1) at Columbia. Chantel Somday had 19 points for Curlew.

Nonleague

West Valley 52, Sandpoint 25: The Eagles (5-0) took advantage of 17 offensive rebounds in a win at Sandpoint (4-7). Hannah Love led WV with 22 points and Shanique Nilles had 14. Maggie Kirscher had 10 for Sandpoint.

Medical Lake 45, Chewelah 38: Amelia Cook had 18 points to lead the Cardinals (2-4) over the visiting Cougars (2-4). Samantha Beamer and Brittney Wuesthoff had nine each for Chewelah.

Republic 53, Wilbur-Creston 25: Tori Orestad had 20 points, eight rebounds, five steals and four assists to lead the Tigers (3-4) past the visiting Wildcats (2-2).

Lake Roosevelt 70, Wellpinit 44: Roweena Antone scored 21 of her 23 points in the first half as the Raiders (1-2) topped the Redskins (1-3) in the Lake Roosevelt Tournament at Coulee Dam.

Coeur d’Alene Charter 42, Valley Christian 40: The visiting Panthers tripped VC (0-3). Lacey Riggan led VC with 17 points.
