Yep, Saxons slighted
The letters from Martha Agnew and Don Winant (Dec. 12) claim the Ferris Saxons deserved better than a page C5 story for their State 4A football championship. I couldn’t agree more.
I decided to look through the archives through the years from some high school teams who had won state championships.
East Valley was given front-page coverage in winning a state championship in 1981 with the caption, “Knights bring home title” defeating Arlington 19-14. Gonzaga Prep received front-page coverage with its championships in 1982 with “Pups whip west’s best” in a 25-7 win over South Kitsap and “It’s G-Prep in a rush 14-7” with a victory over Juanita in 1986. Central Valley was given kudos on the front page the following Monday with “Try ‘legendary’ Bears” rolling over South Kitsap 49-13. And Lewis and Clark was given front-page coverage with “Terrific Tigers” in 2007 defeating Bothell 21-14.
Indeed, the Saxons were slighted with the Washington State University coverage of the Apple Cup.
