Florence Margaret (Cady) Newman

Spokane

Florence Margaret (Cady) Newman is celebrating her 100th birthday today. She was born Dec. 20, 1910, in Spokane. She currently lives at Harvard Park Retirement Home and has been a resident of Spokane for her entire life.

Newman met her husband, Willard “Bill” Newman, in Portland. They were married on the night of Halloween in 1953. He died in 1991.

Newman enjoyed working for the Department of Social and Health Services for 18 years. Her most rewarding life achievement was singing with the Winnipeg Light Opera Company.

Newman attributes her long and healthy life to “moderation in all things.”

When asked what has been her most memorable moment in the past 100 years, Newman said it was the attack on Pearl Harbor.

Newman has one daughter, Diane Lopp, Spokane. She has four grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.
