Area roundup: Wynne leads CCS to title

Preston Wynne led all scorers with 27 points and was named tournament MVP as Community Colleges of Spokane beat Mt. Hood 95-82 on Sunday to win the Mt. Hood Crossover in Gresham, Ore.

Chaz Johnson scored 21 points and Danny Marshall added 20 for the Sasquatch (8-4). Marshall was selected to the all-tournament first team.

CCS shot 58.2 percent from the field for the game.

• Whitworth used a 13-1 run midway through the second half to pull away from Claremont-Mudd-Scripps in a 79-64 nonconference victory in Claremont, Calif.

David Riley scored 21 points to lead four Pirates (9-0) in double-digit scoring. Michael Taylor and Felix Friedt each scored 16 points, and Wade Gebbers hit five 3-pointers for his 15 points.

Women’s basketball

Brooke Randall led all scorers with 22 points to help Community Colleges of Spokane beat Mt. Hood 65-51 for third place at the Bellevue Crossover in Bellevue, Wash.

Korrie Bourn scored 18 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for the Sasquatch (6-2), who never trailed. CCS led by as many as 29 points.
