Protectors owed gratitude
If you’ve read the newspaper or listened to the news you know several serious issues happened this year to involve the Spokane County Sheriff’s Department and the Spokane city police.
They have a challenging and difficult job. I attended a 10-week Citizen’s Police Academy in Spokane several years ago, and it opened my eyes to what the police and deputies have to deal with. We call on them when we need their help and then curse them when they do their job. These are some of the greatest people I have ever met.
I attended a SCOPE volunteer and Sheriff’s Department awards banquet in November. Where was the press? Not one story surfaced about the good things they have done, and there are plenty.
I guess it’s like everything else. If it’s negative, it gets noticed. If it’s something worthy, there is silence.
We thank the military for keeping our country safe. It’s time we also thank the “cops” for doing their job of keeping us safe locally. If you think their job is easy and you can do it better, “walk a mile in their shoes.” They deserve our support and gratitude.
