Snowshoers found safe at Snoqualmie Pass

(AP) — Four women who spent the night in the mountains after getting lost snowshoeing at Snoqualmie Pass have been found, safe but cold and wet. Seattle television stations report that the four are being brought to a trailhead. One of the women, 50-year-old Marynell Matt, of Vashon Island, called 911 from her cell phone Sunday afternoon after they lost the trail. Rescuers kept in contact with her as their search extended into Monday afternoon. The left a trailhead in the Gold Creek area at about noon Sunday. Several inches of new snow fell. SNOQUALMIE PASS, Wash. — Search and rescue crews are trying to reach four women who spent a cold night in the mountains after getting lost while snowshoeing at Snoqualmie Pass. Kittitas County Undersheriff Clayton Myers says that rescuers have been in cell phone contact with one of the women, who reported they’re in good condition and dressed appropriately. But 50-year-old Marynell Matt, of Vashon Island, and three friends are off the main trail and haven’t been able to tell searchers exactly where they are. They left a trailhead in the Gold Creek area at about noon Sunday. About 7 inches of new snow has fallen. Searchers are looking for them on snowshoes and snowmobiles and are working with a wireless phone provider to determine their exact location.
