Collapsed culvert closes Idaho highway near Rose Lake

Reopening expected within three days

A culvert beneath Idaho state Highway 3 near Rose Lake collapsed today, forcing the closure of the roadway, the Idaho Transportation Department reported. High runoff and flooding in the area caused the culvert to collapse, washing out the roadway, an ITD news release said. That section of highway, which is south of Interstate 90, will have only one lane open through the night, with flaggers directing traffic, said ITD spokeswoman Barbara Babic. The road will close Wednesday morning, likely for a couple of days, Babic said, while a new culvert is installed. Motorists are being asked to find alternate routes. Commercial truck traffic will be re-rerouted from Interstate 90 to U.S. Highway 95 and to state Highway 5.
