Preps roundup: Smith powers Lake City
Brady Smith went 8 of 12 from the field and scored 18 of Lake City’s (6-2) first 30 points, pushing the Timberwolves (6-2) past Lake Stevens (4-4) 56-41 at the North Idaho College Holiday Tournament in Coeur d’Alene.
Smith tallied 20 to lead LC and Mark Smyly added 11 points. The Timberwolves continue tournament play today against Priest River.
Post Falls 76, Chiawana 62: Marcus Colbert scored a game-high 25 points and Connor Hill added 14 points, nine rebounds and four assists as the Trojans (7-0) outscored the Riverhawks (4-1) by 10 in the fourth quarter to earn the win.
The Trojans play Coeur d’Alene on the second day of the Holiday Tournament at North Idaho. Chiawana, led by 22 points from Jordan Downing, will play Lake Stevens.
West Valley 66, Lakeland 40: Brady Bagby tallied 12 of his 28 points in the second quarter and the Eagles (7-0) took a 16-point lead into halftime against the Hawks (1-7). Jake Love added 12 points for the Eagles and Hunter Arno added 12 for Lakeland.
St. Maries 63, Freeman 54: Jake Mercer tallied a game-high 28 points and cashed in at the free-throw line, hitting 15 of 17 from there to help lift the Lumberjacks (6-2) over the Scotties (3-6).
Kellen Miller scored 23 points to lead the Scotties, who play Lakeland today in the consolation game. St. Maries plays West Valley in the championship game.
Whitman Coll. Tournament
University Prep 57, Valley Christian 32: Kyle McEachren scored 14 points and Will Jaffe hit three 3-pointers in the second quarter as the Pumas (6-3) scored 23 points in the second quarter to pull away from the Panthers (4-2) in Walla Walla. Craver Small led the Panthers with 11 points. VC plays Odessa-Harrington today.
DeSales 52, Odessa-Harrington 50: The Irish (3-3) hit a winning 3-point shot in the closing seconds to beat the Titans (2-5). Justin Hunt had 15 points to lead the Titans, who led by three going into the fourth quarter. DeSales plays University Prep today in tournament action.
Miller Harvest Tournament
East Valley 80, Timberlake 48: Ronnie Jarvis and Jake Reynolds each scored 16 points to lead the Knights (4-1) against the Tigers (0-9) at the tournament in Spirit Lake.
The Knights scored 24 points in the opening quarter, never scoring less than 17 in a quarter.
Kellogg 69, Coeur d’Alene Charter 52: Tyler Morgan scored a game-high 28 points and added eight rebounds and the Wildcats (7-2) outscored the Panthers (7-2) 19-5 in the fourth quarter to earn the win at the Silver Valley tournament.
Kellogg JV 56, Wallace 31: Ryne Stull scored 10 of his 20 points in the first half and the Wildcats knocked off the Miners (2-4). The Wildcats’ JV squad will play the varsity team in the championship game today.
Life Christian 65, Lake Roosevelt 61: The Eagles (3-4) used a 10-point edge in the third quarter to put the Raiders (5-2) into a big hole.
Ty Egbert had 13 points to lead the Raiders and Brandon Kohler added 11 points. But LC used a 24-point fourth quarter to earn the comeback victory.
Hermiston 75, Lewiston 63: Alex Ortiz had 18 points, Trevor Phillips and Kurt Simmons each added 15 and the Bulldogs outlasted the Bengals (4-4). Matt Kalbfleish had 15 points to lead the Bengals.
Wenatchee 42, Cheney 36: The Panthers (5-3) shot 8 of 13 from the free-throw line in the fourth quarter to erase a one-point deficit, beating the Blackhawks (5-2) in Wenatchee.
The Blackhawks could manage just two points in the third quarter, led in scoring by C.J. Skillingstad’s 11 points. Shakur Smith added eight points and 10 rebounds for Cheney.
Cusick 77, St. Michael’s 31: Tyler Edwards finished with a double-doublegame, tallying 29 points and 22 rebounds to lead the Panthers (3-3) over the visiting Warriors (1-5).
Ryan Sample added 17 points and five assists for the Panthers, who scored 22 points in the first quarter and 21 points in the third quarter to pull away from St. Michael’s. The Warriors, led by 15 points from Chris Shelley, scored no more than nine points in a quarter.
