Huskies work overtime, beat Trojans

Matthew Bryan-Amaning and freshman reserve Terrence Ross scored 18 points each, and Washington rallied to beat Southern California 73-67 in overtime in the Pac-10 opener for both teams on Wednesday night at Los Angeles.

Ross, whose points were a career high, hit four 3-pointers to tie his career best before fouling out with 2:37 left in overtime. Bryan-Amaning added eight rebounds, and Justin Holiday scored 12 points for the Huskies (9-3), who won their third in a row and sixth in their last seven.

They outscored USC 18-12 in overtime, with Holiday accounting for their first five points. USC’s Donte Smith tied it at 58 with a 3-pointer, but the Trojans trailed the rest of the way.

Nikola Vucevic had a career-high 28 points – making all 14 of his free-throw attempts – and 14 rebounds for the Trojans (8-6, 0-1), who had won two in a row.

Whitworth 86, Colorado College 59: Jack Loofburrow came off the bench to score a career-high 31 points and lead the Pirates (11-0) to a victory over the Tigers (5-5) on the second day of the D3hoops.com Classic at the South Point Hotel and Casino Arena in Las Vegas.

The win was coach Jim Hayford’s 200th at Whitworth, making him 237-82 in his career.

Loofburrow was 13 of 14 from the field and hit 5 of 6 attempts from 3-point range to push the Pirates after a slow start. David Riley added 16 points for the Whits.
