Holiday weekend affects some services, offices

Here’s what’s open and closed for the New Year’s holiday:

Public agencies: Most government offices and courts are closed today for the New Year’s holiday.

The Spokane County Regional Animal Protection Service will be open today from noon to 5:30 p.m.

Mail: Most post office branches are open today, and mail will be delivered as usual. In Spokane, mail placed in blue collection boxes after noon will be picked up Monday.

The Riverside Avenue station in downtown Spokane will be closed today. Stations to close at noon are Liberty Park, 1502 E. Sprague Ave.; Dishman, 111 N. Vista Road; and Parkwater, 2020 N. Dickey Road. All others will be open normal hours.

In Kootenai County, post offices will be open regular hours today, and collection times will remain unchanged.

Post offices will be closed Saturday, and no mail will be delivered Saturday.

Garbage pickup: Garbage and recycling collection are on normal schedules in Spokane and Kootenai counties. Waste Management offices are closed today. The Waste-to-Energy facility and transfer stations in Spokane County are open today but closed Saturday. Kootenai County transfer stations also will be closed Saturday.

Liquor stores: All Washington state-run liquor stores will be open until 9 p.m. today, and will be closed on Saturday. Contract liquor stores may be open both days. In Idaho, liquor stores will be open regular hours today and Saturday.

Banks: Many will close early today, and some will be closed all day. Call your branch for details.

Parking: Parking meters in Spokane do not have to be plugged today and Saturday.

Libraries: Spokane Public Library branches are open today and closed Saturday. The Coeur d’Alene Public Library is closed both days.

Riverfront Park: The Ice Palace, Imax Theater, Spokane Falls Skyride and Carrousel are open today and Saturday. Check www.spokaneriverfrontpark.com for hours of operation.
