Warming shelters activated

Spokane will activate its warming centers tonight due to the extreme cold, the city said in a news release. Such shelters are activated when temperatures are forecast to drop to 15 degrees or below and homeless shelters have been at capacity in the previous 24 hours. Warming centers that will open at 8 p.m. and remain open until 7 a.m. Saturday are located at the House of Charity, 32 W. Pacific Ave., for single men over 18; and The Salvation Army, 222 E. Indiana Ave., for couples and families with children.
