Weather service predicts bitter cold

New Year’s Eve will be frosty, with the National Weather Service’s Spokane office saying conditions will be “bitterly cold.” Low temperatures in both the Spokane and Coeur d’Alene areas tonight are expected to dip to zero or below zero; a light wind will drive wind-chill readings to minus-3 to minus-18 degrees, the weather service says. It’s not until Thursday that the weather service expects daily high temperatures to climb above freezing. Snow won’t return until mid-week, with a 50 percent chance of snow on Wednesday night.
