The Spokesman-Review

It seems there is a kerfuffle in revisiting the site choices for our proposed new jail. The same highly paid consultant is being paid a second time to come up with what seems to be the same recommendation as before. This is difficult to understand.

The larger question is why there will not be a second option on the ballot when the choice and funding is actually presented to the voters. Many of us want an option offering increased services and care for our mentally ill, drug-dependent and alcoholic citizens, as well as our veterans who are on the street.

It was proved by the pilot project using this approach within the county Sheriff’s Office to reduce recidivism rates. That pilot that worked exceptionally well has been cut instead of expanded. I for one would like an explanation by the sheriff and the county commissioners.
