Cougar picked in draft

Washington State senior Kiersten Dallstream was selected by Sky Blue FC in the Women’s Professional Soccer dispersal draft on Thursday.

Dallstream, who led the Cougars with 13 goals and 33 points in 2009, was drafted in the first round by the Los Angeles Sol on Jan. 15, but the Sol discontinued operations.

Baseball

Northwest Conference coaches tabbed Whitworth for seventh place in their preseason poll.

The Pirates, 10-26 overall and 8-20 in league last season, received 34 votes.

Pacific Lutheran, which tied for last year’s NWC title, is the No. 1 choice, receiving six first-place votes and 84 points.

Softball

NWC coaches selected Whitworth for fifth place in their preseason poll.

The Pirates, 15-21 overall and 11-15 in league last season, received 33 votes.

Six-time defending champion Linfield is the top pick, receiving seven first-place votes and 70 points.

Football

Washington State University defensive lineman Jordan Pu’u-Robinson was arrested for fourth-degree assault Saturday night after what a Pullman police report described as a fight.

Pu’u-Robinson, a freshman from Hawaii, redshirted last season. He has been suspended from team activities while WSU coach Paul Wulff investigates the incident, a school spokesman said.

Fourth-degree assault is a gross misdemeanor punishable by up to one year in jail and/or a $5,000 fine.
