Angling site quite a Catch
OUTFISH – Fly fishers are tuning in to the hip Web-based technology and superb photography of an online angling publication that debuted in September.
The bold images and video of Catch Magazine require a computer with horsepower and fast Internet.
But this showcase of premier angling photography appears to be catching on. The free magazine attracts viewers in more than 105 countries, says co-founder Brian O’Keefe of Bend, Ore.

Waterfowl group organizing here
OUTREACH – A Spokane-area chapter of the Washington Waterfowlers Association is organizing Thursday, 7 p.m., at the Pizza Factory in Medical Lake.
“We are a hands-on, get-the-boots-dirty organization that focuses efforts in waterfowl hunting and waterfowl conservation,” said organizer Thor Ostrom.
WWA was founded in Seattle in 1945, he said, adding that the Spokane Chapter will be the eighth in the state.
“All of our projects have been on public lands to ensure that our efforts in habitat enhancement benefit all citizens,” he said.

A free program on fly-fishing notable Western hatches will be presented Wednesday, 7 p.m., at St. Francis School, 1104 W. Heroy, by Jim Schollmeyer, of Salem, Ore., sponsored by the Spokane Fly Fishers.
Bill would snag bucket biologists
OUTLAW – Wyoming lawmakers are considering a proposal to put some teeth into laws that prohibit illegal stocking of fish.
The proposal would penalize “bucket biologists” with fines up to $10,000, loss of hunting and fishing licenses possibly for life, plus possible civil penalties for costs to remove the unwanted species from the waters.
Wyoming is in the Interstate Wildlife Violator Compact, which means the loss of fishing privileges also could be extended to 31 other states.
The bill stems from the illegal introduction of walleyes into Buffalo Bill Reservoir, near Cody, a few years ago.
The lake was one of those rare waters that had a good mix of self-sustaining rainbows, cutthroats and lake trout. No stocking was required.
Introducing a new predator is likely to tip the balance.
