While the Spokane Valley was shrouded in fog this morning, cross-country skiers were basking in sunshine above the clouds at Mount Spokane State Park.

The parking lot at Selkirk Lodge was full of cars even on Super Bowl Sunday. In addition to the regular weekend ski crowd, more than 200 women were skiing and snowshoeing around the nordic trails during the annual Women’s Souper Bowl fundraiser for the Women’s and Children’s Free Restaurant.

Although the ground is brown at lower elevations, Mount Spokane’s nordic trails have a good snow layer and were beautifully groomed.

Next Sunday the nordic trails parking lot will be packed again for the 32nd annual Langlauf cross-country ski race, the region’s largest nordic skiing event.
