Released Former NFL star Warren Sapp was released from jail in Miami Beach, Fla., on Sunday on $1,500 bond, a day after being arrested for allegedly choking a woman in his hotel room. Police arrested Sapp on Saturday on one charge of misdemeanor domestic battery. An arrest affidavit says the incident happened about 5 a.m. Saturday in the former defensive tackle’s hotel room at the Shore Club on Miami Beach. Sapp’s attorney said the former player is taking the matter seriously and will cooperate with authorities.

•Officials say Miami Dolphins defensive tackle Tony McDaniel is out of jail after being arrested and accused of domestic violence. McDaniel was released Sunday on $3,500 bond. Authorities say the 25-year-old South Carolina native returned from a night out with friends and then got into a fight with his girlfriend early Saturday at his home in Davie, which is near Miami.

Acquired The San Jose Sharks bolstered their defense by acquiring Niclas Wallin in a trade with the Carolina Hurricanes. San Jose also acquired a fifth-round pick in 2010 and sent a 2010 second-rounder – that previously belonged to Buffalo – to the Hurricanes to complete the deal.

Reinstated Convicted ex-Samsung chairman Lee Kun-hee was reinstated as a full member of the International Olympic Committee, a boost for South Korea’s bid to host the 2018 Winter Games. Lee’s rights were restored by the IOC executive board, although the IOC also gave him a public reprimand for tarnishing the Olympic movement and banned him from serving on any IOC commissions for five years. Lee voluntarily gave up his IOC rights after being indicted in 2008 in a financial and tax evasion case. The South Korean government pardoned Lee last year, clearing the way for his return to the IOC.

Signed Veteran outfielder Brian Giles has signed a minor league contract with the Los Angeles Dodgers. Giles, 39, has been invited to big-league camp. A career .291 hitter, Giles batted just .191 in 61 games last season with the San Diego Padres.

Re-elected U.S. Soccer Federation president Sunil Gulati has been unanimously re-elected to a second four-year term. Gulati succeeded Bob Contiguglia in March 2006.

Died The Italian Cycling Federation says national team coach Franco Ballerini has died following a crash during an amateur rally race. The federation said on its Web site that Ballerini, 45, was taking part as a navigator in a rally early Sunday when his car swerved off the road and crashed. The driver, Alessandro Ciardi, was also taken to the hospital with a reported fractured pelvis.
