Glen Dow Academy Extended Hours Benefit for Cancer Patient Care – Friday, 3-7 p.m. at Glen Dow Academy of Hair Design, 309 W. Riverside Ave. Benefit is held to raise awareness and funding for the local charity, Cancer Patient Care. All proceeds on services (hair, nails and skin) provided between the hours of 3-7 p.m. will go to this cause. Refreshments will be provided as well as drawings for prizes, including tickets to Cancer Patient Care’s Mostly Merlot Winemakers Dinner. “Know Your Heart – Save Your Life” – A Healthy Woman event sponsored by Deaconess Medical Center and Valley Hospital and Medical Center. This fun, educational evening will include: “Everything You Wanted to Know About Heart Disease But Were Afraid to Ask,” an informal discussion and question-and-answer session about women’s heart disease; “My Heart Attack,” personal experiences of women who suffered and recovered from heart disease; information about carotid artery screenings; free cholesterol screenings and blood pressure checks; drawings and giveaways; and refreshments. FallProof Balance and Mobility Training Course – Waterford on South Hill is holding this 10-week series of classes, held 9-10 a.m. on Wednesdays and Fridays, beginning Feb. 17. Participants will learn tips on improving posture and walking, how to recover from losing balance, increased stability and greater confidence. Cost is $150 for the entire series. “Know Your Healthy Numbers Screening” – Hosted by CHER (Community Health Education Resources), and will include the following screenings: full lipid panel cholesterol test, blood pressure, body mass index, body fat percentage, and blood glucose level. American Diabetes Association and Shawn Higgins Memorial Fund Family Retreat – For families living with Type 1 Diabetes. Families will learn more about diabetes management, and how it affects the whole family, and will have the opportunity to spend quality time together. April 23-25, begins at 5 p.m. on Friday and runs through 11:30 a.m. on Sunday. Held at Camp Pinelow, 3806 N. Deer Lake Road, Loon Lake, Wash. Cost is $100 per family. “Visualize… a World without ALS” Benefit Luncheon – Second annual event features a keynote speaker and is an opportunity for the community to participate in this fundraising benefit luncheon, learn about the mission of the ALS Association Evergreen Chapter, and learn about local services.
